advertising and branding agency

We just think these images are great. As part of the branding and advertising campaign for Reporters Without Borders the advertising agency Ogilvy developed this idea.

To illustrate just how censorship gives the viewer only half the story and to illustrate how censorship is wrong they took everyday situations of political figures and with the addition of the censor pixellation gave each one a clever twist.

For more information check out the Reporters Without Borders website here.

Graphic Design Course

Here is a brilliant motion graphics piece. It beautifully illustrates what the college does, who their target market is, and speaks to them through different media. Motion graphics, stop motion and live footage are all combined to create a captivating piece.

Drive Now. Branding

To start in Munich then Berlin, BMW and Sixt AG, have created an innovative new car sharing venture. The two companies intend to join forces in offering a modern mobility concept under the brand-name DriveNow. Cars dotted around the city can be found using smart phones and laptops.

The user can then book a car, or if one is free jump in there and then. The car is unlocked using a registered driving licence and a special code. The user can then drop the car off wherever they want as there are now parking charges.

“The BMW Group will be offering DriveNow under the new sub-trademark BMW i, which stands for innovative mobility services and which will reinforce the position of the original BMW brand as a sustainable and forward-looking brand.”

Its great to see such a big brand as BMW really think of new and innovative ways to make life easier for commuters. Both the product and the brand have global appeal. By the year 2020, the plan is for DriveNow to have one million members worldwide. All the cars are easily recognisable with the DriveNow logo and branding.

google slam. interactive viral marketing

Demo slam is a new web site by Google. The web site is designed to get the public to enter their videos using Google technology. Visitors to the web site judge the best of two videos and a winner is selected. The whole Google slam thing began not so long ago, and its designed to get the public more aware of the features which they offer, but to do so in a fun way. They hope to get people who would normal never watch a demo video watching the user generated content.

What I did find amazing was just how quickly these dodgy SEO guys got onto it. After typing in ‘google slam’ the first entry which came up was for an Search Engine Optimisation company, promising to make you the first result in Google every time. The actual Google web site is called Demo Slam.

what does sound look like? photography/motion design

Ever since the advertising agency Fallon directed ‘Bouncy Balls’ for Sony Bravia TV, every so often a commercial will come out that has taken some inspiration from their original concept.  This advert by the design agency Dentsu London is for Canon’s PIXMA colour printer range. The images were created by placing a few droplets of paint on a balloon which was stretched over a speaker. A note was then played and the camera captured the results. Some really cool images were taken with the help of the photographer Linden Gledhill.

Check out the web site http://www.dentsulondon.com/blog/2010/09/28/sound-sculptures/ for more images on how this design was created.

how ink is made

Being a graphic design agency who deal with print we really liked this video. Its from a Canadian ink makers, who specialise in colour. Its pretty fascinating to see how a simple pigment is mixed to one day become colour that we use on everything from business cards to brochures. Its a special craft that takes time and effort. Its important for designers and agencies to really understand what makes up there ink, and get a full view of the printing process from the very start to the production of their final design. These guys do all kinds of ink including eco-friendly ink with big reductions of harmful chemicals.
